Speak Up, Speak Out: Cystinosis and Me – 2025

Amgen, in partnership with Believe Limited and the Cystinosis Research Network, is excited to bring back the fourth annual Speak Up, Speak Out: Cystinosis and Me—a one-of-a-kind spoken-word self-advocacy workshop for young people living with cystinosis.

This transformative two-day experience, Speak Up, Speak Out: Cystinosis and Me! will take place July 10-12, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in partnership with the Cystinosis Research Network's Family Conference, which runs July 11-13, 2025. While connected to the conference, this program is a separate event designed to empower participants (ages 13-22) to:

• Use their own words to share their journey

• Explore the healing power of creative expression

• Build confidence and community

• Strengthen self-advocacy skills

The SUSO workshop culminates in a live performance where participants take the stage to share their stories during CRN's Family Conference.

What to Expect

• Instruction in written and spoken word techniques

• Theatrical and performance training

• Relaxation, meditation, and breathing exercises

• A final showcase in front of friends and family
